Jesus is a Liberal

I don't remember if I ever posted this to my old site, but it seems to have disappeared into oblivion anyway. In light of recent political events...very heartening indeed after this long darkness...I thought it was a good time to repost this awesome website!

First Massachusetts, could NJ be next???

I was thrilled to live in the Baystate when we became the first state to legalize gay marriage. Now New Jersey, my husband's home state and home to my in-laws, has the opportunity to do the same! They may go the way of Vermont and only offer "civil unions"...but hopefully they will go all the way and do the totally right, just thing, not just second best, since as one assemblyman is quoted as saying New Jersey is "a progressive state with a history of tolerance". Yay New Jersey! :-)

Willow Tree figurines by Susan Lordi

I don't often post about "things", and I'm not really all that into collecting collectables. But I just love Susan Lordi's Willow Tree figurines. At first I thought they were just odd little people without faces, but if you look at them more carefully you see that what she does is express a thought or emotion with a simple gesture.

The My Hero Project - Anne Lamott

This page The My Hero Project - Anne Lamott is a tribute to my favorite writer. I will eventually write my own tribute to Ms. Lamott, but in the meantime I think this page does a pretty good job. If you've never read any of Ms. Lamott's books, I would urge you to. I prefer her autobiographical stuff...Travelling Mercies is my favorite.

Friday, September 29, 2006, a Project of the Democratic Party

I just found this page on Senator O'Bama's wepage. It's called, a Project of the Democratic Party - actions you can take to help elect Democrats in November!

Gay Marriage victory!

Good news on the gay marriage front! Gay couples from Rhode Island can now marry in Massachusetts!

Deval Patrick for Governor!

I am so excited that Deval Patrick won the democratic primary. Now we just need to elect him in November!

Among his stands, on disability rights he pledged to: Assure Community-Based Long Term Care, Expand Access to Personal Care Attendants, Eliminate the Achievement Gap, Ensure Access to Job Opportunities, Expand Eligibility to Health Insurance, Develop Affordable Housing Options, AND - ENFORCE THE ADA! :-)

And while it is hard to find on his website, he is a strong supporter of gay rights. Deval Patrick for governer!

I couldn't think of a better title for this post...every "today" is so glorious with my son. I feel guilty that I don't stitch for him more, read to him more, read more for myself, cook...the list goes on and on....but Evan is a happy little boy and what more could I ask for? :-)

Hoping everyone is well and that your loved ones are well. - Amy

Current Reading: Plan B: Further Thoughts on Faith by Anne Lammott (my *favorite* author!) (I need to go back and reread "Operating Instructions: a journal of my son's first year", now that I have a son. ;-)

Current Listening: Welcoming Children into the World by Sound & Spirit (if anyone has good websites for multicultural music books toys and posters, please feel free to drop me a note to tell me about it! My son's collection of toys and books and music is *very* Christian/white/straight so far..... ;-)

Current Stitching: Noah's Ark by Teresa Wentzler (Oh what a LIE! I haven't put in a STITCH since Evan was born! :-/ But I did pull out my next batch of threads for the next 3 squares of the border! ;-)

Brangelina won't marry until all couples can - Celebrity News -

I just read this article, Brangelina won't marry until all couples can - Celebrity News - I have to admit, I couldn't have done it, I wanted to get married too much. But I applaud couples who refuse to marry until everyone can - can you imagine if everyone did this? The religous right would have a *fit* at all the unmarried parents, people living in "sin", etc.! LOL! I think it is a reasonable statement to say I won't marry 'til everyone can. Good for them.

Daniel Powter: Bad Day

I really really like Daniel Powter. And I love the song "Bad Day" from American Idol. Granted, I think it is totally annoying that they play that song and that song only every time someone loses...but I still love the song. ;-)

Evan Robert is here!

Evan Robert Kelly was born on May 13, 2006 at Beth Israel Hospital. He spent several days in their NICU since he was early (he was due June 30th), and then he went on to Emerson Hospital's special care nursery. We were incredibly blessed to have our son taken care of by such skilled and compassionate professionals.

Edge-centric: Cure TV

I've been waiting for someone to write about this horrible dreck called "Miracle Workers". I am so sick of the media's attitude that disabilities have to be "cured". Here's Mary Johnson's take on the horrible show, Edge-centric: Cure TV

Babies were *born* to be breastfed!

Since I'm expecting, I'm starting to check out all sorts of websites. One thing I know is that I want to breastfeed...the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services says it best. ;-) So I found this site, :: Breastfeeding @, and it looks really good!

And my friend Jane recommended La Leche League, and I've already read "The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" and highly recommend it!

When is Pat Robertson just going to go AWAY?!

Pat Robertson: Sharons stroke is Gods wrath -

This man is constantly saying hateful and downright crazy things, and I suppose we should just ignore the old coot - but my GOD when is he just going to go away? Unfortunately, it probably doesn't matter much, since like other Right Wing nutties, he's prepping his SON for his job. {{Sigh}}
