Edge-Centric: Ah yes: 'hire the handicapped" month... DON'T SHOP AT WALMART!

Okay, so we all knew Wal-mart stinks. But here is in black and white they are completely ableist. They don't want to hire anyone with medical issues who might cost them health care money, so if you can't gather carts, shelves things, etc.. you can't have a job.

Walmart is outrageous and nobody should shop there. EVER.

Heartbeats Catalog

Heartbeats is one of those catalogs that I just really love to support. Their website will tell you they carry "inspirational gifts made by Women artists, developing world and minority artists. Unique irish blessings, wedding blessings and inspirational cards." But what I like most about this organization is that they are helping women of the world who *really* need it, and in a way that respects their talents. My favorites are Vicki Shuck and Doris Klein.

They also carry House Pins by Lucinda Yates, those lovely enameled pins that also help homeless people. Visit Lucinda's Website for pins that help women in need. She even makes breastfeeding pins!

Songs From The Neighborhood: The Music of Mister Rogers

Amy Grant, Gordon Lightfoot, Ricky Skaggs and others have put together a CD tribute to Mr. Rogers. It's called Songs From The Neighborhood: The Music of Mister Rogers.

Sharon Olds - more reasons to love her!

I have always loved Sharon Olds. She is one of my favorite poets. I especially love her poems about motherhood. Now, she has taken action against injustice as you'll read in this Nation article - No Place for a Poet at a Banquet of Shame. It makes sense that Laura Bush, who as a former teacher and librarian, loves poetry. And it's cool she wants to sponsor these poet dinners. But what's so ironic is that for ages, poets have spoken out against violence and injustice...and Laura Bush is condoning some of the most horrific acts of violence and injustice by blindly standing by her husband and thereby supporting just that.
